Egypt and Russia advocate for strengthening economic ties

Cairo, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin advocated for deepening the bilateral ties, especially in the fields of industry, economy and energy, an official communique reported on Tuesday.

In a phone conversation held on Monday, the two leaders also talked about the nuclear power plant that is being built with Russian technology in the northern region of Dabaa, the first of its kind in Egypt.

The facility, which will start operating in 2026, will have four VVER-1200 pressurized water nuclear reactors, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.

El-Sisi and Putin also exchanged views on the establishment of a Russian industrial zone, in eastern Port Said.

The Egyptian leader highlighted the longstanding ties between the two countries that led to the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in October in 2018.
