Representatives of Cuba Yes New York-New Jersey Coalition and other US organizations joined this demonstration holding signs calling for the end of US blockade against Cuba.
“Let Cuba live”, “Lift the blockade”, “Cuba Yes, Blockade No”, the activists chanted and gathered on Lexington Avenue, New York.
Protesters welcomed and supported the reopening of Cuba’s borders, called for an end to economic sanctions and travel restrictions over Cuba, and also called for an end to interference by the United States.
On Monday, members of the 31st USA-Cuba Friendship Caravan, an initiative promoted by the Interreligious Foundation Pastors for Peace, will also arrive in Havana.
Gail Walker, executive director, claimed the caravan represents countless people in the United States who oppose the blockade against Cuba and are also disappointed with Joe Biden administration´s policies.
Washington has tightened the economic, commercial and financial blockade in an opportunistic and unprecedented way amid the Covid-19 pandemic, as the Cuban Government has repeatedly condemned.
Under Donald Trump´s term (2017-2021), the White House launched over 240 unilateral coercive measures and sanctions on Cuba. President Joe Biden has kept policies unchanged to date.
