Completing the democratic transition, holding elections next year and respecting political activities that do not violate the Constitution are our commitments, Al-Burhan said during an interview with a foreign television station.
Following the October 25 military uprising, General al-Burhan dissolved Hamdok’s cabinet, detained him and his ministers for 48 hours, decreed a state of emergency and made clear that the military will oversee Sudan’s return to constitutionality.
Hamdok’s overthrow unleashed popular protests repressed by military forces that left four dead and about 100 wounded and the opposition of political parties and professional associations.
The African Union, the Arab League, the European Union and the United Nations condemned the overthrow of the Sudanese civilian cabinet and demanded the release of the former prime minister.
