Mexico calls for agreements at COP26 with human rights

Mexico calls for agreements at COP26 with human rights
Mexico, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Mexico on Monday called to maintain a perspective of human rights, gender equality and intergenerational equity in the agreements being negotiated at the UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26).

The Mexican delegation to the meeting in Glasgow, Scotland, regretted that during the review of the guiding principles of the Doha work program, these concepts were not reflected, which compromise the action plan for the next 10 years.

A press release from the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs states that the Mexican delegation, headed by the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, warned that this is not only a question of coherence between the several texts of the convention, but also a matter of principles.

According to the text, during the COP26 negotiations, the Mexican representation will promote the inclusion of those references to ensure that the climate governance and the activities and obligations of the countries derived from these, take into account human rights and guarantees, mainly women and girls, indigenous peoples and other vulnerable groups.

The COP26 began on October 31 and will conclude on November 12. The aim is that the representatives of the state’s parties discuss the international governance on climate change, as well as the global actions in favor of the environmental conservation.
