Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett´s statements test out President Joe Biden’s credibility, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said.
In Friday´s press conference, Mr. Bennett strongly opposed to the reopening of US consulate to serve Palestinians who live East Jerusalem, while pointing out this city is his country´s indivisible capital.
Such a stand was rebuffed by the international community, which considers the eastern part of the city as an occupied area and seat of the powers of a future Palestinian state.
US consulate was closed under Donald Trump´s administration, but Joe Biden announced that it would be open afresh, although he did not repeal several measures taken by his predecessor in favor of Israel such as to move US embassy to Jerusalem.
Bennett’s words “officially confirm Israel is a government of settlements and settlers,” the Foreign Ministry condemned.
