The festivity will begin on November 16, date on which the founding of the Villa de San Cristobal de La Habana is also celebrated, and will pay tribute in its traditional program in the capital’s Guanabacoa municipality, to the 502nd birthday of the city.
The event will last until the 19th with a wide program that evokes the roots of Africa in the Caribbean through book sales, workshops, exhibitions, musical and dance presentations of the most autochthonous of this culture.
The word Wemilere means in the Yoruba language Fiesta dedicated to the Orishas or Meeting of the Orishas, and the celebration precisely aims at praising the ancestral traditions, religious beliefs and the pride of the African heritage.
