In statements to Prensa Latina, Rosa Maria Reyes, vice rector for Postgraduate Studies, Science and Innovation at the University of Oriente, described the stay in Belgium since late October as fruitful, and highlighted the meetings between the two scientific institutions.
According to Reyes, who holds a PhD in Sciences and is a senior professor, the aim of the visit was to verify and assess the progress of a joint project between the University of Oriente and the Belgian technical cooperation agency VLIR-UOS, an initiative that is in its ninth year of implementation.
Reyes pointed out that cooperation with the VLIR-UOS has yielded important results for the University of Oriente, which has improved its infrastructure for research, the computerization of processes and the access to modern information and communication technologies.
As a result of this project, we have nine laboratories for areas such as molecular biology, cell culture, physics and soil studies, and a data center with a high-performance computer that supports other institutions in eastern Cuba, the doctor said.
Another significant aspect of the above-mentioned project is the specialized and high-level scientific training of young professors from the University of Oriente, through a program that guarantees the publication of papers in prestigious journals, and language training. jg/iff/mem/wmr
