This number exceeds in 3,000 cases the one from the day before, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the governmental center responsible for the control of infectious diseases.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths from the disease rose to 154.
The weekly report of this institution qualified as very high the danger to the health of the unprotected or those who have not yet completed the immunization plan.
The RKI considers the risk for those fully vaccinated to be mild, although increasing due to the high number of infections.
The current situation is very worrying. An increase in severe cases and deaths is possible, says the report, which also warns of the possible collapse of intensive care units.
This scenario could happen if measures such as the use of masks, distancing, reduction of contacts and ventilation do not lead to a remarkable reduction in contagions, the report warned.
As of today 66.9 percent of Germany’s population was immunized with the full plan and about 2.4 million citizens received the booster dose, according to the RKI.
