According to Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, on the first day of the session, a new Lower House speaker from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will be chosen.
A deputy speaker will be selected from the main opposition and second-largest party, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
The special session follows last month’s general election, in which Kishida’s LDP and its smaller partner, Komeito, retained a majority in the Lower House.
