Russian and US intelligence talk about the fight against terrorism

Moscow, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) The director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, and his Central Intelligence Agency counterpart, William Burns, discussed cooperation and the fight against terrorism, the Russian press reported.

Naryshkin and Burns met yesterday in Moscow at the initiative of the US to analyze interdepartmental issues in the context of relations between Moscow and Washington, the SVR stated.

The head of the CIA was accompanied by a delegation, during the visit, which was made on behalf of US President Joe Biden, according to the TASS news agency.

The head of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, met with Burns in what was the first meeting between the two since the latter was appointed head the CIA.

They had spoke in 2013, when Patrushev traveled to Washington with Burns as acting Secretary of State.

Patrushev maintains regular contacts with the National Security advisor to the president of the United States, Jake Sullivan, with whom he has had six telephone conversations and one meeting in person so far this year.

Burns was ambassador to Russia from 2005 to 2008 and in March of this year he became the first career diplomat appointed to head the CIA.
