Georgetown, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Secretary General Carla Barnett congratulated the Government and people of Dominica on celebrating the 43rd anniversary of their independence today.

The issue of 2021’s festivities, “United in Purpose: Our Health, Our Heritage, Our Culture” is a clear call for citizens to continue in their collective actions to face their challenges and maintain their unique identity, Barnett said in a message to Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

“Your portfolio within the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet as head of Government for Labor (including intra-community movement of skills) is an important responsibility in our integration movement,” she noted.

The secretary general added that the international body looks forward to Dominica’s continued and active engagement in advancing the Community’s integration process.

“Our Commonwealth joins the Government and people of Dominica in celebrating the 43rd anniversary of independence and offers best wishes for the continued advancement and growth of the Commonwealth of Dominica,” Barnett referred.

On November 3, 1978, the United Kingdom granted independence to the State of Dominica within the British Commonwealth of Nations.

It is an island and republic in the Americas, part of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.
