Angola projects using clean energy on a larger scale by 2025

presidente João Lourenço, COP26
Luanda, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Angola expects that 70 percent of its energy production will come from clean sources by 2025 following new investments in the sphere, the local press reported.

The Jornal de Angola newspaper made public the government’s commitment, endorsed on Tuesday by President João Lourenço, during his speech at the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), in Glasgow, Scotland.

“Green” sources currently constitute 62 percent of the energy matrix and the forecast is to raise this percentage to 70 percent by 2025, the president said.

He highlighted the approval of the National Climate Change Strategy 2021-2035, focused on achieving the goals set in the Paris Agreement.

The President said that the State signed concrete commitments to reduce the emission of carbon monoxide in the production of electric energy by 2025, and complementary actions in the field of sustainable management of forests, transport and agriculture.

Likewise, as he said, adaptation actions have been identified in order to improve the climate resilience of communities and the protection of social and economic investments.

The executive signed an agreement with the International Foundation for the Conservation of the Environment in order to preserve the flora and fauna of the Luengue-Luiana and Mavinga natural parks, and encourage sustainable international tourism.
