Mexico warns about dengue cases in migrant caravan

Mexico, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) Mexico´s National Migration Institute (INM) on Monday reported that they have detected six cases of dengue among a caravan of thousands of migrants and asylum seekers from Central America and the Caribbeanvan that left the municipality of Mapstepec, in Chiapas.

INM indicated that it is coordinating with Chiapa health authorities to provide assistance and to establish health measures the corresponding authority sets down. We fear of a greater dengue contagion among migrants.

According to INM, medical report showed that five migrants with dengue symptoms are minors, one of them seriously-ill with dengue hemorrhagic fever who has been already admitted at the Mapstepec Rural Hospital.

The parents of three of these minors refused to receive medical attention on the grounds the caravan would continue on its way.

INM is in contact with federal and municipal authorities to collaborate and provide healthcare to these migrants at risk.
