Damascus, Nov 02 (Prensa Latina) The Spanish Department of the Faculty of Letters and Humanities of the University of Damascus today hosted an informative conference on the island that was attended by students and members of the teaching staff.

During the event, materials on Cuban heritage, identity and culture were screened, and a historical review was offered about the people’s struggle for their independence and their resistance to the attempts of Imperialism to undermine their sovereignty.

Likewise, historical relations between Syria and Cuba that are now entering their 57th anniversary were discussed, and their excellent political and diplomatic level was highlighted, as well as the determination to overcome the obstacles imposed by the blockade faced by both nations.

The interventions of the representatives of this institution of higher education revolved around the cultural and patrimonial elements of Cuba, as well as the reciprocal solidarity between the two sister countries in the face of common challenges.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, the head of the Spanish Department, Hanadi al-Yafi, thanked Cuba for its positions in support of Syria and hoped that the cooperation would extend to the field of granting postgraduate scholarships for the professors of her department.

Despite the blockade and political pressure, cooperation continues and we hope to continue on the path of friendship with our brotherly Cuban people, she assured.

In turn, the island’s ambassador, Miguel Porto, described the interaction of students and teachers with the information provided as excellent.

The questions and concerns of the students showed interest in knowing more about Cuba in the political, cultural and historical spheres, the diplomat stressed.
