Cuba advocates for effective climate action in COP26

COP26 Cuba
Havana, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Foreign Ministry, Bruno Rodriguez, today advocated for effective climate action and rejected empty promises, on the occasion of the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) on climate change.

“In this endeavor, it is crucial that developed countries assume a decisive role under the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities,” he added on the social network.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister urged to contain global warming through concrete and ambitious commitments during the COP26, in which heads of state and government of more than 120 nations are participating.

The summit in Glasgow, Scotland, will seek to set guidelines for implementing the Paris Agreement, mobilizing climate finance, actions to strengthen climate adaptation, technology development and transfer, and limiting the rise in global temperatures.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres also advocated at the meeting for the implementation of new and concrete climate change policies, with a view to eliminating subsidies for carbon production and investing in clean technologies.

Cuba’s Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez, attended the premiere of the documentary on the Task Life, as the plan designed by Cuba to face climate change, at the University of Glasgow the day before.
