The Supreme Court heard President Joe Biden´s three-hour statements and abortion clinics on alleged unconstitutionality of measure adopted in September in Texas.
Five of nine members of the Supreme Court previously backed up such a regulation that limits the right of Texans to terminate pregnancy after about six weeks of pregnancy, even in cases of incest or rape.
However, ahead of Monday’s hearing, two of these conservative-leaning judges appointed to the position by former President Donald Trump, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, gave hope of repealing the measure. The New York Times newspaper and CNN reported.
This stance contrasts with the Sept. 1 ruling, when the same court rebuffed to curb the law in a 5-4 decision.
The Justice Department filed in September a lawsuit against Texas for banning abortion, something that President Joe Biden called as “profoundly anti-American” and harmful to women, especially those who are immigrant, black and poor.
