Peru’s opposition parliament disapproved by 75% in survey

parlamento de perú
Lima, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) The unpopularity of Parliament, under strong influence from the extreme right, grew notably, according to a survey released on Monday by the non-governmental Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP).

The survey showed that the negative rating of Peruvian Parliament performance increased 61 to 75% in just one month, and approval dropped 32 to 21%.

Rejection to the Congress rose to 80% in southern regions, where progressive ideas have more roots, and to 78% in Lima, which was a right-wing stronghold in general elections in April.

Regarding the results, political analyst Verónica Ayala told La República newspaper that the rejection to Legislature is due to the fact that the Congress speaks of building bridges of talks with the Government but passes bills that affect it, and resist to giving their ratifying approval to the new cabinet.

Another analyst, Alonso Cárdenas, added that Parliament President Maricarmen Alva has been in confrontation with the Congress from the beginning and shown with body language her public scorn for President Pedro Castillo.
