Algeria will stop using oil pipeline through Morocco

Algiers, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) Algeria will modify the route of supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Spain after announcing the suspension of the agreement to use the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline passing through Morocco, according to an official statement.

As of the entry into force of the presidential decision, Spain will receive fuel through the Mezgaz gas pipeline with shipments of LNG by sea with a schedule pending definition by the parties.

The measure is another sign of the worsening of the crisis between Morocco and Algeria following the rupture of diplomatic relations last August in the heat of the forest fires in Kabylia, of which the president of Algeria, Abdelmayid Tebune, accused people supported by Morocco at the instigation of Israel.

President Tebune “ordered the national company Sonatrach to cease the commercial relationship with the Moroccan company and the non-renewal of the contract”, without specifying the date of entry into force of the measure.
