Jordanian energy expected to reach Lebanon by end of year

Beirut, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon will begin receiving Jordanian electricity through Syria by the end of this year, according to an agreement signed between the energy ministers of the three countries on Thursday.

The head of the Jordanian Ministry, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, noted that he had arranged such a consent with his counterparts from Lebanon, Walid Fayyad, and Syria, Ghassan Al-Zamil. Kharabsheh added that the amount of energy will reach 400 megawatts per day.

‘The network will be ready by the end of this year,’ Al Zamil said, while Fayyad confirmed the World Bank’s financing for the project.

Jordan and Syria have been connected by a 400-kV (kilovolts) transmission line since 2001, which has been out of service since 2012 due technical reasons.

The existing connection lines between Syria and Lebanon are of 400 and 230 kV.

The project was put on hold due to the refusal of the United States, which gave its approval to the plan a few hours after Lebanon’s Hezbollah announced the purchase of fuel from Iran.
