Involvement of political party in shooting confirmed

Beirut, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) The Intelligence Department of the Army of Lebanon on Tuesday confirmed the involvement of the Christian party Lebanese Forces in a shooting that killed seven people and wounded dozens on October 14.

The deployment of snipers that fired at a demonstration in the capital’s locality of Tayouneh, according to the investigation, was carried out by Simon Musallam, a security officer from the Lebanese Forces.

To date, Government Commissioner at the military court, judge Fadi Akiki, has accused 68 people of being involved in the shooting. Akiki said that Musallam supervised the location of the shooters the night before the massacre.

To the intelligence and military attorney’s office, the shooting is not an isolated and spontaneous clash, but a full-fledged military action.

The detainee’s confessions ratified that Musallam inspected the area of Ain al-Rummaneh and Tayouneh, spent the night in the latter and left it after the shooting.

Investigators also found that the Lebanese Forces mobilized young people with their military equipment to stay in specific places in Ashrafieh and Ain al-Remmaneh.

The Military Attorney’s Office took into account those reports to interrogate the head of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, on Wednesday and hear his testimony.

If he refuses the subpoena, he could face a warrant for his arrest.
