China’s Vice Premier Liu He and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen reached that consensus during a virtual meeting that was the third high-level gathering held this month between the two powers.
According to an official communique, this was again a pragmatic, frank and constructive dialogue about the macroeconomic situation and the bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
However, the Chinese vice premier stressed the issue of additional tariffs and the sanctions implemented by Washington, after calling on a fair deal for domestic firms.
Liu and Yellen’s talks followed those he held with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai on October 9, to review the implementation of the phase one pact to put an end to the tariff war.
In early October, Yang Jiechi, director of the Office of Foreign Affairs Commission at the Communist Party of China, and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met in Switzerland.
