Lebanese political chief’s failure to appear in court condemned

Beirut, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Hezbollah on Monday condemned the refusal to appear in court of Samir Geagea, leader of the Lebanese Forces party, suspected of being behind the deadly incidents in the Beirut locality of Tayouneh.

Muhammad Raad, leader of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc of the Party of God, censured Geagea for avoiding to appear before the Military Court which summoned him in recent days.

Honorable people offer apologies when they are wrong, but the perpetrator avoids acknowledging the criminal action against a peaceful demonstration, he stressed.

According to Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, supporters of the Christian Lebanese Forces party attacked a protest march because they considered the investigation for 2020’s explosion at Beirut’s port may be politicized.

A statement issued by the Resistance party alleges that Geagea considers it an insult to justice to demonstrate against Judge Tarek Bitar, in charge of the investigation, and at the same time refuses to appear in court.

On October 14, a shooting in Tayouneh killed seven citizens and injured dozens of people who were participating at a march organized by Hezbollah and the Amal Movement.
