A patrol of agents managed to frustrate an attempt to smuggle 650 kilograms of Captagon pills hidden at a truck heading from Homs to Damascus province, the Anti-Narcotic Department informed.
It indicated that both, the driver and the people accompanying the cargo, were arrested and they are currently interrogated to reach all the persons involved.
The authorities recently intensified their operations against drug trafficking networks and culminated in the capture of dozens of traffickers, while large quantities of drugs were seized.
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, some 9,860 people were arrested during 2020 on drug trafficking and consumption charges, while more than 4,863 kilograms of hashish, 26 million Captagon pills, some 427,000 psychopharmaceutic pills, four kilograms of heroin and 219 grams of cocaine were seized.
