Addressing a meeting on the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China’s lawful seat at the United Nations, the president called to take care of it, not exploiting it for individual benefits and least of all abandoning it unilaterally.
He insisted that international regulations should only be shaped by all UN members, and never by any State or group in particular.
Xi called on the world to choose cooperation over confrontation, opening over seclusion and mutual benefit over zero-sum games.
He stressed the need to promote peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, which are the common values of humanity, but he also urged to overcome difficulties in solidarity and seek common development in harmony.
In addition to speaking at the ceremony, Xi Jinping met virtually with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, with whom he reviewed sensitive issues on the regional and global agendas.
