As part of the training at the Harb-Maidon range, troops from former Soviet countries are practicing confronting and eliminating terrorist groups to ensure security and stability in the Central Asian region, the Russian Central Military District said.
Four thousand troops and more than 500 military teams from Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are participating in the exercises, as well as a group of Armenian soldiers, all members of the organization founded in 2002, Sputnik news agency reported.
The drill began on October 18, after the CSTO reported on the need to carry it out, given the danger that the Afghan conflict will spill over the country’s borders and due to the presence of terrorist movements in Afghanistan.
