Turkey reinforced troops in Syria

Damascus, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) A Turkish army convoy entered today Idlib province in northwestern Syria, where Ankara holds dozens of military positions and sponsors extremist anti-government armed groups, local media reported.

A column made up of 31 armored vehicles and trucks loaded with logistic equipment, ammunition, weapons and cement blocks, entered through the illegal border crossing of Kafer Lussin, one of several usually used by Turkish troops to enter and leave this Arab nation, reported the official SANA agency.

As confirmed by the media, among the weapons there are anti-tank guided missiles manufactured by NATO countries, in addition to several anti-aircraft systems.

Syrian military sources quoted by the agency said that the purpose of the introduction of this caravan is to support terrorist organizations and to hinder the Syrian Army’s operations to liberate the areas of Idlib still under the control of the radicals.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad recently demanded the Turkish government to remove its troops illegally occupying the Arab nation’s territory and allow the restoration of normal relations between the two neighboring countries.

He denounced that the Ankara-sponsored armed groups in northwestern Syria are classified as terrorist organizations according to UN Security Council regulations.

Turkey has illegally controlled since 2018 large areas in northern Syria and maintains 114 military positions, which are distributed in five provinces – Aleppo (56), Idlib (45), Raqa (9), Hasakeh (4) and Latakia (2).

On several occasions, Damascus denounced this presence and described it as an occupation, in addition to assuring that the same prevents the complete liberation of its territory from terrorism.
