Ghost of civil war revives in Lebanon

Beirut, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The shooting in Tayouneh revived the ghost of the 1975-1990 civil war in Lebanon, as almost similar reasons drove the shoot-out in which seven citizens were killed and dozens were wounded, analysts stress on Thursday.

A march by followers of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement was the target of an attack occurred last week by gunmen and snipers in that Beirut locality that reproduced episodes occurred 40 years ago.

The demonstrators were on their way to protest in front of the Palace of Justice against the allegedly politicized performance by Judge Tarek Bitar, in charge of investigating last year’s explosion at Beirut’s port.

Those scenes were similar to photographs of the 15-year internal conflict resulted in the deaths from 150,000 to 200,000 people and the whereabouts of some 17,000 are still unknown.

The civil war in Lebanon broke out between Maronite Christians and the Palestine Liberation Organization forces, and then Lebanese leftist, pan-Arab and Muslim groups formed a coalition with the latter.
