Massive participation expected in Mexico’s tourism tianguis

Mexico, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) The Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur) of Mexico informed today that for the 2021 edition of the Tianguis Turístico 2021 in Mérida they expect 1,252 buyers, a figure close to the level prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sectur recalls that the 2019 forum, in Acapulco, reached 1,344 buyers.

Michelle Fridman, Secretary of Tourism of Yucatan, indicated that the Tianguis Turístico in the entity was scheduled for 2020, but was cancelled days before due to the health crisis, however, -she added- there was already a number of buyers close to 1,300.

The data show that people are eager to reactivate tourism and trust in the security protocols implemented, said the state official.

Said protocols include social distancing, antibacterial gel and the request to the attendees of their complete vaccination certificate or a negative Covid-19 test to have access to the event.

For his part, the head of Sectur, Miguel Torruco, pointed out that this is very encouraging, since as of today there are 1,252 buyers representing 814 companies from 41 nations.

This figure is still tending to improve, but we can already say that this edition is a success, he added.

He recalled that for the remodeling of the Siglo XXI Convention Center, where the event will be held, the government of Yucatan invested millions of dollars.

For her part, Fridman explained that this edition seeks to recover 30 percent of the losses reported as a result of the cancellation of last year’s edition.

The secretary pointed out that some of the challenges at this event were the drop in budget and the new needs in the face of the pandemic.
