The ruling will close Carrión´s prosecution, who has been remanded in custody since May 17, when he was arrested amid a curfew he violated, after a violent affray at former Public Health Minister Mauro Falconi´s house, whose partner was the alleged victim.

The decision will be known after several days of proceedings, which started on October 14.

According to Carrión’s defense attorneys, the Prosecutor’s Office is hard up for sufficient evidence to prove Carrión´s guilt.

The ruling issued by attorney general Diana Salazar is the maximum aggravated penalty of five years in prison plus a third of that sentence.

Regarding Carrión´s case, jurist Freddy Ron considered that after having read the file, he conclusively ‘said that Carrión is being detained illegally.’
