The meeting took place last weekend in the US city of Miami and was the first on-site encounter since the outbreak of the pandemic in March last year.

According to CARICOM’s official website, the forum discussed ‘the different effects of Covid-19, including uneven access to vaccines and the emerging two-level vaccine approval system related to international travel.’

Without specifying details, the report indicated that ministers discussed the situation in Haiti and explored the possible ways for the bloc’s intervention ‘to help in a solution promoted’ by the government of that country.

Another topic for debate was the barriers on access to concessional financing, and obstacles preventing economic recovery, according to the official press release.

In matters of foreign policy, the ministers analyzed bilateral and multilateral relations within the Western Hemisphere and ‘the concerns coming from areas of political instability in the region of the ‘Great Caribbean’.

In addition, they discussed the definition of common positions and coordination at global level with third countries and regional and international organizations in order to design a strategic foreign policy agenda for the Caribbean community.
