According to statements made by its president, Leon Binedell, the company plans to increase production capacities at the Moa-Niquel S.A. Comandante Pedro Sotto Alba plant, located in the eastern province of Holguín, according to the Cuban News Agency.
During a visit to that plant on Tuesday, the executive acknowledged the efforts of the workers to keep the industry in operation, one of the most efficient regarding its technology in the world.
He also highlighted the work carried out in the creation of computer systems to control production performance.
Minister of Energy and Mines, Livan Arronte, accompanied the Canadian businessman on his tour of the factory, which has been jointly administered with the Cuban side for 27 years.
The minister acknowledged the importance of the visit to strengthen operations in Cuba, where nickel production is expected to increase in the coming years, one of Cuban exports.
According to the Ministry’s Twitter account, Sherritt International, based in Toronto, Canada, has excellent relations with Cuba and is committed to strengthening and expanding business in mining, oil and energy.
