Published in the Liberation newspaper of the Socialism and Liberation Party, the material recognizes the island’s advances in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and the production of its own vaccines in the midst of the tightening of the U.S. blockade.
According to Gloria La Riva, author of the article, the mass vaccination of the population means that by that date ‘an astonishing 92 percent of the entire population in Cuba will be fully vaccinated thanks to the development and production of its own vaccines: Abdala, Mambisa and Soberana Plus.’
The coordinator of the Cuba-Venezuela National Solidarity Committee stressed that the Antillean nation is also the only one ‘that covers children up to two years of age’.
She commented that both vaccination and early medical intervention in positive cases are the two factors responsible for Cuba’s 97.5 percent recovery rate of the sick, compared to a world rate of 90.46 percent and 85.3 percent in Latin America and the Caribbean.
La Riva recognized the work they carry out ‘from hospitals to the famous biotechnology centers and the production of medical equipment, Cuban heroes in these fields are essential actors in the country’s resistance to the blockade and the Covid-19 pandemic’.
She highlighted that they achieve great feats in the midst of the harshest economic measures imposed on Cuba by the U.S. government.
