Positive momentum in Central African Republic must be maintained

United Nations, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Mankeur Ndiaye, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of UN peacekeeping operation, on Monday considered the declaration of the Oct. 15 ceasefire is a major step towards dialogue.

In his speech to the UN Security Council (UNSC), Ndiaye sent an acknowledgment to President Faustin Archange Touadéra and his government for positive steps taken.

‘It is essential that all the armed groups and their leaders without any exception, subscribe in good faith to the peace process by fulfilling in good faith all their obligations pursuant to the agreement of the 6 February and the joint roadmap,’ said Mr. Ndiaye, underling the need for accountability.

UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) intends to focus efforts on increasing contribution from international partners to peacekeeping process.

Ndiaye also called for the support of all UNSC members to engage, both individually and collectively, with all Central African and regional actors in order to implement the immediate cessation of hostilities and ceasefire.
