Called for by the Greek Committee for Distension and Peace in Messinia, members of that group, the Hellenic Cuban Friendship Association ‘Venceremos’ (We will prevail) and the Communist Party expressed their support for the Caribbean island and denounced the destabilizing actions against it.
During the event, organized under the slogan ‘Cuba is not alone’, participants criticized the increase of US attacks against the Caribbean Island during the Covid-19 pandemic and recognized Cuban efforts to face the health and economic crisis.
For her part, ambassador of the Island, Zelmys María Domínguez thanked the Greek people for their solidarity and their support in spreading the truth about Cuba.
The main problem for the development of my country is the hostility of the United States, which cannot stand the existence of a socialist revolution in what they consider their backyard, she pointed out.
She also condemned the strengthening, during the administrations of Donald Trump (2017-2021) and Joe Biden, of the economic siege, direct attacks and ideological subversion.
Washington makes up pretexts to put Cuba in wrong lists, promotes all kinds of campaigns, creates false victims and repression to distort the image of the Revolution. Its goal is to present the idea of a country in collapse and in chaos to encourage a social outbreak and justify an intervention, she said.
Domínguez said that her nation rejects any interference in its internal affairs and assured that a military attack would have unforeseeable consequences for peace and security in the region.
On the other hand, she emphasized that, despite the blockade and US attacks, Cuba developed three immunizers and two vaccine candidates against Covid-19 and sent doctors from ‘Henry Reeve’ contingent to offer their help to dozens of countries throughout the world.
‘Despite all imperialist actions, the Cuban people will not renounce the construction of an inclusive, democratic, prosperous and sustainable socialist society with everyone and for the good of all’, she said.
