Cuba officially joins energy alliance in Chinese project

Beijing, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuba officially joined the Energy Alliance of China's Belt and Road Project, which is aimed at building an international mega-platform for cooperation and exchange under the principle of shared profits.

Cuban Ambassador in Beijing Carlos Miguel Pereira highlighted the importance of the group to expand and diversify collaboration in this sector and collectively overcome its global challenges.

He ratified Cuba’s commitment to contribute to sustainable progress and invited Chinese companies and institutions and the rest of the members to work in fields such as the promotion of green energy and inclusive access to energy services.

Meanwhile, Cuban Energy and Mines Minister Livan Arronte referred to measures adopted by his Government to develop renewable sources, promote their efficient use and achieve independence in this area.

He called for the promotion of international cooperation and solidarity in favor of developing countries, so they can face current global challenges and comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

In this endeavor, Arronte denounced the impact of the economic and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic, as it is considered the main obstacle to his country’s development.
