During a virtual coordination meeting between the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called for the development of infrastructure, which he considered the cornerstone of integration, according to a statement from the ministry.
As an example of cooperation amid the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, he cited Cairo’s support for the African Center for Disease Control and the Response Fund.
He also underscored the vital role of the African Union Development Agency in allocating the necessary resources to invest in the continental integration program.
Two weeks ago, Shoukry urged African unity to confront terrorism and extremism, scourges that keep many countries on the continent in check.
Experience showed that organized crime and terrorist groupings know no borders and can quickly metastasize, the official warned during a virtual meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council on Libya.
