Russia estimates its herd immunity against Covid-19 at 45 percent

Moscow, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) The National General Staff for the fight against Covid-19 reported today that the rate of herd immunity against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Russia right now is estimated at 45 percent.

According to the statement, as of October 15 the first component of the vaccine against Covid-19 was injected 51 million times, while the full course has been received by 47.5 million people, TASS news agency indicated.

Meanwhile, the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (ROSPOTREBNADZOR) detailed that at least 80 percent of the Russian population must be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity.

According to Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova, that represents over 90 million people.

Russia registered 1,002 deaths from Covid-19 on Saturday, the new record in one day since the onset of the pandemic in the country, for a death toll of 222,315.

On Friday, 33,208 Covid-19 cases were diagnosed, another record for a 24-hour period since the disease was detected in the country, bringing about 7,958,384 infections so far.

For the third consecutive day, the country reached a top number of cases in one day, the report revealed.
