UNICEF supports DROC to control Ebola

Kinshasa, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday announced it will send medical supplies to the province of North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DROC), to control and reduce the spread of Ebola epidemic.

According to the source, cited by Radio Okapi, such medical supplies, including equipment to clean up water, will be delivered to health centers and communities in the city of Beni, where according to health authorities, two Ebola cases have been reported.

‘The arrival of these essential supplies is a key first step in the response to this latest resurgence of Ebola, as they will help slow down the spread of the virus, Médard Onobaiso, Chief of UNICEF´s Field Office in Beni, said.

Onobaiso also said that UNICEF sent specialized personnel to Beni to work closely with local health authorities to ‘identify people linked to probable or confirmed Ebola-infected people.’

This latest resurgence of the Ebola virus was declared on 8 October 2021 following the death of a 3-year-old child in Beni, 55km from Butembo, the epicenter of the last outbreak that ended on 3 May 2021.
