National Director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, informed the death on Thursday of 38 patients due to complications from this disease, so the death toll totals 7,994.
Dr. Duran said that 29,775 real-time PCR tests were run across the country on Wednesday to detect the virus, so the total number of tests made since March 2020 soared to 10,078,932.
He added that 11,591 active patients are still in hospitals, 11,299 of them with a stable clinical evolution; 203 in a serious state; and 89 in a critical one.
He reported 516 cases of people under 20 years of age in the past 24 hours, 487 of whom are children, so the daily average of these cases is 724, and said that no newborns were infected with the coronavirus.
Some 4,246 patients were discharged, so the number of recoveries totals 909,042 (97.9 percent), but not free from effects from this disease, the expert said.
When reporting the progress of immunization with the vaccines Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus (for convalescent people) from the Finlay Vaccine Institute; and Abdala, from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, he said that 23,397,552 doses have been administered.
