Cuba reaffirmed South-South cooperation to face natural disasters

Havana, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed today the commitment to South-South cooperation in disaster risk reduction, given the country's experience in dealing with natural phenomena.

‘We support other countries with our modest experience as part of South-South Cooperation’, the Foreign Minister wrote on Twitter.

Rodríguez highlighted ‘the remarkable performance’ in Cuba of the Civil Defense system, which develops prevention, preparation and response actions to protect the population and the resources of the economy, in the face of events of this type.

Cuba began international cooperation in the region as early as 1960, after the earthquake of Chile and brought about the shipment of doctors, medicines, and donations collected by citizens.

Since then, solidarity has characterized the foreign policy of the Caribbean Island, seen through the presence of hundreds of Cuban professionals from various areas and sectors in more than 150 countries.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, just to mention one example, representatives of Cuba have reiterated the importance of collaboration and more than 50 medical brigades have gone abroad to fight the disease in dozens of countries and territories.
