During a meeting, EU and IOM´s high-ranking officials debated on the implementation of a regional pact on migration and asylum-seeking, situation in Africa and the Middle East, climate change and on Covid-19 pandemic.
Issues such as Afghanistan´s crisis and effects of environmental and sanitary conditions on health and human mobility prove the pressing need for multilateral collaboration, said IOM´s Director General António Vitorino.
Likewise, Mr. Vitorino praised the significance of guaranteeing the flow of people in a safe, orderly and regular manner, for which he considered all States´ commitment as critical.
‘We believe that firm collaboration based on dialogue and solidarity at all levels will be critical, particularly with African allied nations and in our joint response to improve the situation in Afghanistan and the region,’ Vitorino stated.
In recent years, EU has held manifold summits on refugees´ crisis, and approved in 2020 a pact that, instead of guaranteeing safety and protection it eases their deportation.
