This rural village backs up sustainable development and has a profound impact on sightseers. It is located on the banks of the San Juan River, within the Sierra del Rosario, in Artemisa province, and covers a 5,000 ha-area and has nearly 1,000 inhabitants.

When UNESCO declared the Sierra del Rosario as a Biosphere Reserve in 1985, and as the community found itself within that mountain range, plans for renovation and tourism development began to be projected.
