Representatives of the three political forces met in the capital without revealing so far the concrete content of the talks.
The FDP (Free Democratic Party) and the ecologists talked the day before about forming a traffic-light coalition with the Social Democrats, winners by a narrow margin in the legislative elections of last September 26.
However, the former did not rule out integrating the so-called Jamaica coalition, coinciding with the colors of the flag of the Caribbean country, the result of an alliance with the Christian Democrats in power and second in the parliamentary elections.
The talks to create pacts and achieve the necessary majority in the lower house of Parliament to form an executive could take months, according to observers.
Until then, the current Chancellor, Angela Merkel, will continue to head the government, although her party, the Christian Democratic Union, is also exploring options that would allow her to remain in power.
