I had a cordial telephone conversation with the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to whom I expressed my warm congratulations and wishes for health and personal happiness on his 69th birthday, the Cuban leader wrote on his Twitter account.

This is the second telephone contact between the two leaders in just over a month.

On August 25 Díaz-Canel called Putin to thank him for Russia’s solidarity during the health crisis caused by Covid-19.

‘We ratified excellent state of relations and importance of intensifying economic, commercial, financial and cooperation ties,’ the Cuban head of state wrote on Twitter at the time.
