According to Harvard Health Publishing magazine, such recklessness would lead to a series of health risks for the elderly including leading to some types of cancer and causing liver damage.
It would also accelerate the impairment of the immune system and the aging process, and worsen conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, and high-blood pressure.
The individual could suffer a stroke, ulcers, memory loss and mood disorders, experts warned.
Meanwhile, the Michigan Health magazine suggested that alcohol consumption may cause forgetfulness in the elderly, an element that could be confused with Alzheimer’s disease.
When drinking alcohol, liver enzymes are activated, and drugs are metabolized faster than normal, losing nearly their total effectiveness, specialists warned.
