VNA news agency pointed out that Rojas, who worked as the first Latin American war correspondent during the combats against the US invader, was for 10 years a witness of the bombings on northern Vietnam and the struggle of guerrillas in the south. She was also the last foreign journalist to interview President Ho Chi Minh.

This and other media highlighted that after returning to Cuba, Rojas actively participated in the campaigns of support and solidarity with Vietnam. Still at 90, she wrote articles on the Southeast Asian nation and worked as Vice President of the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association.

One of her last activities, they noted, was to participate at a meeting organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, during his recent visit to the Caribbean nation.

Marta Rojas, who was granted the Jose Marti National Journalism Award and the National Labor Hero title, covered the events following the attacks on the Moncada Garrison by Fidel Castro and his comrades in 1953.
