Cuba’s Arlenis Sierra wins in Varesine, moves up in cycling ranking

Varesine, Italy, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban route cyclist Arlenis Sierra won the first edition of Italy's Tre Valli Varesine, and climbed up to the 23rd place in the world ranking in that sport as the best in Latin America.

In her final competitive race, she led the A. R. Monex club’s attack over the 91-km course and crossed the finish line with a time of 2:27.14 hours, ahead of Spain’s Mavi García (BTC Ljbljana) and Australia’s Rachel Neylan (Parkhotel Valkenburg), second and third in that order.

Sierra, who made history with her 5th place in the 2021 Flanders Road World Cup, cheerfully stood for fourth time on a podium, just few days after she ended up in the second place in the tour of Emilia, which was organized last weekend in the region of Bologna.

With this performance in Varesine, the best Cuban cyclist at present moved up seven positions in the world ranking and has 910 points, in the Americas, only behind Kristen Faulkner (987), from the United States. jg/etc/mem/yma
