DPRK accuses UNSC of double standards over missile test

Pyongyang, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sunday criticized the UN Security Council (UNSC) for calling a meeting on recent missile launches, describing it as a double standard.

Jo Chol Su, director of the North Korean foreign ministry´s Department of International Organizations, signed the statement published on Sunday by ACNC news agency, and stressed that the tests were conducted for the self-defense purpose.

At the UNSC meeting, the United States and allies described recent launching test of North Korea’s ‘Hwasong-8’ hypersonic missile as a violation of the UN resolution, describing it as a threat to peace and security of peripheral countries, Jo said.

We have not recognized any unequal and illegal UN resolution that breaches the rights to subsistence and development of the sovereign state, Jo added, while adding that, as always, they rolled out weapons tests on DPRK’s jurisdictional land, air and sea and in the safe spaces of the high seas posing no threats or harms to its neighboring nations´ security.

The UNSC meeting is an open and flagrant violation of DPRK´s national sovereignty and also a serious provocation, as it calls the country to renounce the right to self-defense, and it expresses the will not to recognize it as a sovereign state, Jo Chol Su pointed out.

In the statement released on December 3, Jo accused the UNSC of keeping the DPRK-USA military drills silent, while slamming Pyongyang’s normal and planned self-defense measures.
