Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology, explained in a television conference that two doses will be administered to prevent respiratory diseases, among these Influenza A H1N1 (2009 pandemic strain), H3N2 and B type.
Since 1999, the Island has carried out this immunization campaign to reduce serious morbidity from this disease and mortality from pneumonia; and it has benefited adults of 85 and more years of age, people admitted in nursing homes, and psycho-pedagogical centers.
Likewise, it protects pregnant women, asthmatics and diabetics between the ages of 18 and 24, people with chronic kidney failure, infantile cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis and chronic psychiatric patients in hospital institutions, among others.
