Biden to face serious challenges in the US Congress

Washington, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) United States President Joe Biden is facing as of Friday serious challenges in Congress after the approval on Thursday of the extension of the budget that prevented the partial shutdown of the government.

The president still faces the approval of his major social and infrastructure spending projects and the imminent default on the debt ceiling, which would have very harmful effects for the US economy, according to government officials and experts.

Congress must approve the increase in the country’s debt capacity by October 18 if it wants to prevent the first default in US history, while Republicans refuse to suspend the debt ceiling, as they consider that it would be a blank check for the Biden administration.

On Thursday in an atmosphere tinged with optimism and misgivings, House Democratic leaders again postponed a vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill amid threats from liberals to push for a separate, broader package.
